Celebrating Trans Joy Through Literature
My Picks for the Trans Rights Readathon
Prologue: The Trans Rights Readathon is Here
It’s time for the Trans Rights Readathon! The Readathon starts today and and goes until March 31st, which is Trans Day of Visibility. The purpose of this Readathon is to support the trans community by reading trans books and donating to trans organizations. It’s a decentralized fundraiser, so you can support however you’d like! You can find a list of book and charity recommendations from the organization here. Plus you can follow along on their official social media pages and sign up for the Readathon. This will be my second—or third, idk I can’t remember—year participating in this readathon and it always brings me so much joy to see so many people reading and talking about trans books online ☺️
Chapter 1: What’s on My Reading List?
So, what am I planning to read during these 11 days? Well, I have a few books on my list but I’ll be in LA from the 27-31 for something bookish that I’m excited to share with you all soon, so I’m being realistic in the fact that I will probably only read 2 or 3 of these books.
Paper Doll: Notes from a Late Bloomer by Dylan Mulvaney
I was gifted this book by Lush Cosmetics to promote the book and a limited-edition bath bomb to go with it. Check out my Instagram reel of the unboxing. In this book Dylan reflects on her life pre- and post-transition. Apparently it’s “both laugh-out-loud funny and powerfully honest—and is a love letter to everyone who stands up for queer joy.” and I can’t wait to dive into this one!
Chaos King by Kacen Callender (April 8th)
This is the follow-up to Infinity Alchemist—which is a YA dark academia romantasy with trans characters and a poly romance written by a Black trans author—that I read last year and loved! This book technically doesn’t come out until April 8th but Macmillan was kind enough to send me an early copy and I can’t wait to dive back into this world 🙌
Lord of Silver Ashes by Kellen Graves
I read the first book in this series earlier this month—before realizing that I had just unknowingly signed up for an 8 book series 🙃—and with the way it ended I have to jump right into the second one. It’s basically an adult romantasy about a fairy prince and a human changeling servant. While there were no explicitly trans characters in the first book, that I was aware of, the world is very queer and fluid plus the author is transmasc.
Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo
This book was an option for my Fable bookclub a few months ago but we ended up not reading it. But then, I ended up getting this as a blind date with a book from the dinner party I hosted last month, so it kind of feels like fate at this point. I believe there is trans and many other queer characters in this southern gothic novel. Plus, the author is a queer trans man 🙌
Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa
I’ve had this Pride & Prejudice remix on my Kindle TBR five ever(and it’s on Kindle Unlimited FYI)! & for no good reason I keep bumping other books in front of it 🙈, but the Trans Rights Readathon would be the perfect excuse to finally crack this one open. This is in the Remixed Classics series by Macmillan which I think is such a cool series.
Chapter 2: Other Books I Recommend
I’m not doing any rereads for the Readathon but if I was, I know which ones would be on the list 👇

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
The Sunbearer Trials & Celestial Monsters by Aiden Thomas
The Witch King by H. E. Edgemon
And They Lived by Steven Salvatore
Dragon Fall by Laura Lam
Epilogue: Trans Books I Want to Add to My TBR
Since I definitley won’t have time to read all of these books in 11 days, here are some that I will be adding to my TBR very soon!

Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White
Her Majesty’s Royal Coven by Juno Dawson
The Diablo’s Curse by Gabe Cole Novoa
A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth
Mistress of Lies by K. M. Enright
Spellbound F. T. Lukens
Ok, that’s it from me for now. Until next time: be gay, read books, and support trans rights!
